At this point in time, vehicles have pretty much become a necessity. The reality is it’s difficult to live without some sort of car, truck, minivan, SUV or motorcycle. Especially in the United States, you plain and simply need a motor vehicle to get around. After all, our states are so grand and spaced out, no one expects you to actually walk everywhere all the time. This would take days, and you would never make it to work on time. That 45-minute commute in your vehicle would suddenly turn into hours on foot. Fortunately nowadays there are plenty of vehicles to choose from. Getting things done in life is all about the small things; and nowhere is this truer than with car maintenance. The Department of Transportation reckons that on average, the cars that run on American roads are about ten years old. On average, a car is not scrapped before it turns 13. This isn’t as pathetic as it seems to sound. Cars these days are built to last; you usually wouldn’t have to scrap a car before it hits 250,000 miles. And even then, it’s usually scrapped only because the cars’ incidental components, door handles, the seats, and such, begin to fail – not the car itself. We believe that if you could practice all the car care tips you ever read and keep it healthy and running for as long as all this, you could actually save a quarter of a million over your lifetime. You won’t have to deal with car payments as much or high insurance costs either. And if you start saving for a new car early on, you could even have enough cash to buy a new car outright when the day comes around. (more…)

Personally I never bought a used car, I always bought a car brand new and held on to it for years. My first car I had for 17 years and I was reluctant to give it up. I took very good care of all of my cars. Sometimes you don’t have the option of doing this and this article explains the process of judging if that particular used vehicle that you have your eye on is worth getting.

There are some people who will never buy a new car. Some can’t afford one, or don’t have the credit for financing, but others simply think that they are not worth the asking price. A car loses value rather quickly, but the rate will depend on how well cared for that particular car is. In many ways, always buying a second hand car can make a lot of sense financially, as long as you are getting a good one. Luckily, there are many of them that are almost like new, but don’t have a cost that reflects that. (more…)
