Most likely one of the biggest names associated with the new reality TV is Susan Boyle. She was one of the contestants on the Britain’s Got Talent. After the finale, she had a well-publicized breakdown, which unfortunately put the world’s press into a feeding frenzy. The follow article talks about the effect that reality TV has had on our lives.

The prospect of new reality TV elicits excitement in some and groans in others. Do we really need another batch of rich false drama, bachelors breaking up, people losing weight, performers competing against each other, and “unique” families? What happened to our actual reality? (more…)

People Love Joke Videos

Thursday, September 23rd, 2010

Contrary to popular opinion, practical jokes were not invented by the jokesters at Jackass or the pranksters on YouTube. Fellow man has been pranking other fellow men for centuries. The first recorded practical joke was when Cain pointed at the sky and told Abel to “look at that giant hand coming out of the clouds” then pounded him with a rock when he was not looking. The laughter only lasted a few seconds before Cain realized that what he had planned as a harmless jest had gone terribly awry. Since then, men have been planning ways to make their brethren look like idiots at every opportunity. And yes, I say men, because women are not immature enough to laugh at the misfortunes of others and much less plan these misfortunes so meticulously and preferably within eyesight of at least one other person. Finding Good Film Schools

Kevin Smith, the director most renowned for the indie film Clerks, has always said that there’s no such thing as a list of the best film schools. Because film schools can’t actually teach you how to be a good director; you either have it, or you don’t.

I think there’s an element of truth to this. Directing is an art, and if you don’t have an innate talent for it, then you won’t be any good at that. The best film schools and education can’t change it. It’s no different than painting or sculpting; if you can’t do it, you can’t do it.

However, what the best film schools can do is teach how to take whatever latent talent you may possess and apply it to the best of your ability. (more…)

The Fun of Word Search Puzzles

At first I thought search puzzles were a waste of time, and they are meant to be a fun one. There is something gratifying about first recognizing that long word out of what appears to be a sea of letters. This article is about how these puzzles are fun for the whole family.

I can’t seem to find much time for myself, but I do find a moment or two between working, my child, cleaning, and my husband to do something for myself. There are times when I just want to take a half an hour to do a crossword puzzle. Of course, me sitting and doing what appears to be nothing is a great way to attract the attention of my child. She always wants to come over to see what it is that I am doing. She is far too young to do these, but that does not stop her from wanting to try. Instead of letting her scribble in my crossword book, I have been looking for word search puzzles that she can do at her age. (more…)

Jacking Up The Cost Of Theater Movies

The theater in the mall near where I live is a second run cinema. This means that after the movies have been out for a while they start to appear at discount places where you can see the film for a lot less than when it first premiered. This article is about the rising cost of movies, and perhaps not so rising quality.

We all pretty much get duped on a regular basis. Come on; think about this for a second. The majority of us love films, right? We continuously crave that escapism found with our favorite genres of cinema. However, Hollywood sadly continues to crank out re-make after sequel. And on top of that, theater movies run us 8.50 per person. Unfortunately that doesn’t even cover any treats or snacks to enjoy while watching the film. What is the deal here? How long do movie producers plan on making the same flicks over and over? Apparently what we need in this world of filmmaking is some genuine imagination. (more…)
